Taiichi Sakamoto
Professor
Taiichi Sakamoto received undergraduate and master's degrees in Bioengineering from the Yokohama National University (Faculty of Engineering) with Prof. Tatsuo Miyazawa while studying properties of allo-protein containing 7-azatryptophan and doctorate degree in Bioengineering from the same university with Prof. Seiichi Uesugi for studying properties of hammerhead ribozyme and HDV ribozyme.
After getting his degrees, he moved to Mitsubishi Kagaku Institute of Life Sciences as a postdoctoral fellow of Dr. Toshiyuki Kohno in 1997. He studied on structural biology of proteins by NMR.
He moved to Chiba Institute of Technology as a postdoctoral fellow and began to work on RNA structural biology under the direction of Prof. Gota Kawai in 1998.
He left Chiba Institute of Technology in 2002 and started the structural biology of aptamers at the Institute of Medical Science, The University of Tokyo as a postdoctoral fellow under the direction of Prof. Yoshikazu Nakamura.
In 2004, he returned to Chiba Institute of Technology to take on assistant professor position and continued on structural biology of RNA with Prof. Gota Kawai.
In 2010, he started to run his own laboratory 'RNA engineering laboratory' at Chiba Institute of Technology. He is interested in functional RNA-protein interaction and structure-based engineering of functional RNA.
